These carriages were built for general service. The three diagrams were mostly identical , except for the lack of a guard’s ducket on D40 and the first three of D40A, and variations in the position of stepboards and handrails. D40 was 9′ wide, the others 9’3″. Those built before 1931 had turnbuckle underframes, as shown in the photo.
