Description
The 57′ bow ended design followed on from the 70′ coaches introduced in 1922 and were externally similar. Initially used as general purpose parcel vans they were almost immediately branded ‘Ocean Mails’. From 1929 trains were provided as “Ocean” specials serving the passenger liners berthing at Plymouth. A common boat train formation was five Super Saloons and two passenger brake vans, but could be reduced to just three saloons for the fastest services.
